Ramot for the Environment is a community NGO dedicated to saving biodiversity and ensuring quality of life for residents of the Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramot, in particular, and of Jerusalem in general. 

Our aims include preserving valuable, green open space in the neighborhood, encouraging residents to reduce waste and recycle, and educating the residents and school children about ecology and the environment.

Our major goal is to preserve critical open space adjoining the neighborhood.  This area, Mitspeh Neftoah, part of the Ramot Forest, is a biodiversity hotspot, with over five hundred plant species and diverse animal life including one of Jerusalem's largest viable gazelle populations. In 2005, the Israeli gazelle was listed as an endangered species. Besides its rich fauna and flora, and valuable iron-age archaeological remains, Mitspeh Neftoah serves as open recreational space for thousands of Jerusalem residents.

In 2016, the government submitted a plan for 1650 homes to the national "fast-track" planning committee, the latest in a series of plans for the site, all of which failed due to the public opposition we led. This plan too was, de-facto, rejected by the planning committee.

Our NGO has submitted an alternative plan to the regional planning committee to save this area as a community nature and archeological park, the focus of which will be an educational center for biodiversity studies.
